About
I’m Zak (he/him). It’s nice to meet you.
I’d like to share a bit about myself and how I work, so you can get a sense of what therapy with me might feel like.
Each week, we’ll meet for 50 minutes at the same time and place. This time is yours—you’re welcome to talk about whatever feels important. My commitment is to be honest and direct, while also bringing warmth and compassion to our conversations.
In our sessions, you might notice me asking about your experiences as a child or young person. Often, the patterns we develop early in life—ways of thinking, feeling or behaving—helped us survive or gain love when we were younger. But as we grow, these patterns can linger, even when they no longer serve us. Together, we can explore them, giving you more choice in how they shape your life today.
I may also ask about what’s happening in your body. Sometimes, our bodies hold onto feelings and experiences we can’t yet put into words. By paying attention to physical sensations, movements or gestures, we can uncover valuable insights. This helps us connect with what’s really going on, beyond what words can express.
These are just a few of the ways our sessions might unfold.
I also value and celebrate the diversity each of us brings—whether that relates to your race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, beliefs or ability. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirmative and anti-racist because I believe that by honouring our differences, we can deepen compassion for ourselves and each other.
It’s important that you feel comfortable working with your counsellor.
The relationship we build is at the heart of therapy, so it’s essential that you work with someone you trust. My role is to support you in gaining insight into yourself and your relationships, and to help you discover new ways of navigating life. I focus on creating a warm, respectful environment where you feel safe to explore whatever is bringing you to counselling.

That depends on what you would like to explore. Some issues take longer to work through than others, so you could be in therapy for anywhere from 12 weeks to 1 year or be open-ended. But it’s up to you how long you are in therapy, and we can review your progress regularly together.
